Memory and Speech

I’m most at ease when surrounded by nature. When alone in natural surroundings with my camera I feel more at peace than anywhere else. I find the memories of my experience are stained, dulled out and sometimes lost when I try to describe them using speech as a medium. I’ve used a Zen Koan (‘The moment you speak about a thing you miss the mark’) that has stayed with me for over ten years to visually convey this feeling. I’ve bypassed the limitations of singular printed images by using handwritten text and ink in this piece.

  1. I really liked the visual aspect of this work! I loved watching you write all across those images, but I wish that there was some kind of audio. At the end of your video, I really wanted you to rip all of the photos and your writings off the wall . . . that would have been awesome! (I'm also destructive by nature!)Overall, I think the video was really successful! Good job Chica! Keep 'em coming!
    P.S. it's Alicia!
